Yesterday, the Boston Celtics made a big announcement. They Celtics will be retiring Paul Pierce’s Jersey.
Paul Pierce was one of the great players in his era. He dueled with the likes of Kobe Bryant, Vince Carter and other great players of his era. Pierce was drafted in 1998 by the Boston Celtics. He was the 10th pick of a draft that consisted of Dirk Nowitzki, Vince Carter, and Antawn Jamison. In my opinion, Pierce should have been a top 5 pick. Regardless, the selection worked out for both the Celtics and Pierce.
Piece played with the Celtics for 15 years. He lead the Celtics through ups and downs. In 2008, he became an NBA champion. That was the summer the Celtics acquired Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett. The trio formed “The Big Three”, a name that would be used to describe the Heat years later.
In 2013, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett were traded to the Brooklyn Nets. The Nets had high expectations, but they did not reach them. Pierce stayed with the Nets for one season. He signed with the Wizards in 2014.
Pierce’s final destination was the L.A Clippers. He was a key role player for them. He stayed with the Clippers for 2 years. He announced that the 2016-2017 season would be his last. He finished his playing career with the Clippers.
Last month, Pierce signed a ceremonious contract with the Celtics. In other words, he officially retired with the Boston Celtics.
The Celtics will retire Pierce’s jersey on February 11,2018. Pierce will join the likes of Robert Parish, Bill Russell, Larry Bird and other great Celtics. It is a high honor, and Paul Pierce deserves it. Congrats to Paul “The Truth” Pierce on another great accomplishment.
